Why should we have to give up our civil liberties? Why aren’t the civil liberties we took from all of the Arab Americans after 9/11 enough? Why do you need more?
A Muslim Canadian radiologist was escorted off a US flight in Denver while coming back from a medical conference after another passenger freaked out because this arab was sitting in his seat reciting his evening prayers before his flight.
"The whole situation is just really frustrating," Dr. Ahmed Farooq said. "It makes you uneasy, because you realize you have to essentially watch every single thing you say and do, and it's worse for people who are of color, who are identifiable as a minority."
What he wants is an apology from United Airlines. What he going to get is most likely the same treatment if he doesn’t learn this lesson.
It is suspicious just to be a Muslim in America. Period.
Arabs in America are being arrested on charges of terrorism for buying large quantities of cell phones that they plan to sell out of the back their party stores and gas stations. Pretty soon its going to be illegal for an Arab to even own a cell phone.
I tell you. It is kinda scary to watch this kind of stuff happening to someone else.
As a black man I almost don’t know how I feel about it. I have been shit on so long in this country I am not sure how I feel about it happening to someone else.
According to Farooq, the passenger that created the fuss was drunk and had threatened him earlier, for most likely being an Arab.
You know racism is running on all cylinders when federal marshals take an intoxicated white man’s word over yours.
That reminds me of the days when all it took was a white women to accuse a black man of saying something inappropriate to get people strung up in trees.
She could’ve been an untreated hallucinating paranoid schizophrenic and it didn’t matter.
Suddenly she was beyond reproach if it involved a black male and it was her word verses his.
Nobody knew this better than Emmett Till who was brutally beaten until he was unrecognizable, had his ear cut off, an eye gouged out, and only then was shot with a .45 caliber pistol before having a seventy-five pound cotton gin fan tied around his neck with barbed wire to weigh his body down before they dropped him into the Tallahatchie River.
All this for whistling at a white woman...well at least, that was her side of the story.
Well today it’s the same thing now but only its people of middle-eastern decent who are holding the short end of the stick.
I can get any Muslim/Arab I want tossed off any commercial flight in the US by simply telling someone on that flight that I find something about Muhammad suspicious, even if I fail to tell them that, truth be told, I find everything about them suspicious.
The airlines used the cop out that “safety is our first concern”, but its nothing but abhorrent racism and discrimination when you don’t take into account any consideration the source of your information.
But here is the question, does it work both ways? Can an Arab get a drunk white guy escorted off a plane by raising concerns to a stewardess that he doesn’t feel comfortable with a belligerent, obnoxious, drunk sitting behind him singing “America the Beautiful” in his ear?
Could Emmett Till have gotten Carolyn Bryant’s husband to beat the shit out of her by telling him that he thought his wife was checking him out?
Of course not. This isn’t a two way street. Traffic only travels one way on this road.
The next thing I can see us doing is creating Arab only commercial flights out of the oldest, shittiest planes in the fleet, and have no security whatsoever on those flights.
No one really feels comfortable flying with them anymore anyway right?
"There's no recourse," Farooq said. "There's no way to really be able to talk to anybody to really be able to reason it out. The police officers who talked to me afterwards and subsequent officials within the first three to five minutes, they were like, 'You know what? The crew made a mistake. We apologize that they took you off. They overreacted.'"
But by that time they had given him their appologies the plane had taken off and at least everyone on that particular flight, thanks to a belligerent drunk, got home safely without being blow to pieces by a liquid bomb, flying into a building or taking a nose dive into an open field.
If you think that is just a coincidence that they removed this Arab and no acts of terror occurred on that particular flight, then as Dubya puts it, "you do not understand the nature of the world in which we live."
